PAOLO LAZZERINI

Paolo Lazzerini was born and grew up surrounded by the breathtaking beauty and artistic talents of Tuscany, in the small town of Pietrasanta, in the province of Lucca. Son and brother of art (his father Bruno was an international mosaicist, while his sister Giuliana is a painter appreciated in Europe and the U.S.), already as a teenager he began to feel a strong need to express his own vision of beauty as «the harmony between the real world and the most intimate dreams», so he pursued his painting career by attending Art High School and the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara. During these years he participated in lots of competitions, winning prizes and the attention of critics and art admirers. In the 1970s and 1980s, he exhibited in a variety of national and foreign art galleries such as Galleria Il Traguardo in Forte dei Marmi – where he received compliments from Walter Lazzaro, one of the founders of Marguttiana Arte – Galleria Urania in Vittoria Apuana, the Accademia di S. Cecilia in Rome, Le Tableau Gallery in Turin, Galleria San Marco in Rome, then in Ponte Tresa in Switzerland and at Gallery 2000 in Tokyo.
Over the next three decades his painting activity became more and more intense: his works spread and distributed in various private collections and we frequently find him at Italian and international events and exhibitions, eventually reaching China with a traveling exhibition between Shanghai, Ningbo, Hangzhou and Wuhu.
In 2019, he won La Francigena dell’arte competition, and his « Francigena way, the magical path of life» was reproduced in a 20-meter banner that watches over Pietrasanta from the cathedral bell tower during the Francigena Tuscany Marathon.
His deep love for his homeland, which he considers «a constant source of inspiration for dreams and art» led him to collaborate with local wineries, proposing “signature labels” for the fine Tuscan wines of Fratelli Nistri, Tuscania and Marchesi Valentini wineries (the latter with production dedicated exclusively to China export).
In 2024, Lucca’s Municipal Administration chose the works of Paolo Lazzerini to pay tribute to the film crew alongside Dustin Hoffman and Helen Hunt, in town for the shootings of the director Peter Greenway’s new movie. The artist himself donates his own works to the Mayor and the two main actors during a meeting at Palazzo Orsetti.
Lazzerini receives numerous commissions from all over Italy: he carries out a four-year project for the GEAL water company, as well as image studies for the Prefecture of Lucca and the police station of Forte dei Marmi, paints several drapes for the Contrade San Paolino historical re-enactment association, and lends himself to collaborative projects with lots of local and non-local companies.
With constant experimentation and inexhaustible research, the artist creates compositions within everyone’s reach, heavenly scenes in which everyone can easily find shelter and lose themselves. With inexhaustible energy he finds new ways to propose his art and unite people in the lulling atmospheres of his most cherished memories, protected by a benevolent slice of moon or a vibrant sun.
He exhibits permanently in the Paolo Lazzerini Arte galleries in Lucca (Piazza San Giusto 4 and Via Fillungo 112), Arte Viæ in Pietrasanta (Via Mazzini 32) and Florence (Via Belle Donne 11 and via dei Servi 74r), and some of his works can also be found at the Blue Tree Gallery in York and the Oblong Gallery in Dubai. His quotations can be found in the CATALOGUE OF MODERN ART – GLI ARTISTI ITALIANI DAL PRIMO NOVECENTO AD OGGI ed. Mondadori.
